COLOMBO, August 14 (ePRESS) – Colombo FC continued their unbeaten run in the Super League 2025/26 with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Blue Eagles SC at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, moving into second place in the standings with 11 points from five matches.
Forward Umar Mohamed Shakil scored the decisive goal in the 35th minute and was later named the Most Valuable Player as Colombo FC collected three valuable points.
The match was a tight battle from the start, with Blue Eagles trying to put pressure on the Colombo defence. However, Colombo remained organised at the back and waited for their chance.
That chance arrived ten minutes before half-time when Shakil found the breakthrough to give Colombo a 1-0 advantage.
Blue Eagles fought hard to get back into the contest after the interval and made changes in search of an equaliser. But Colombo protected their narrow lead and goalkeeper Mohamed Imran and his defence kept another clean sheet.
The result also underlined Colombo’s strong defensive form. They have not conceded a goal in their first five matches, scoring nine while collecting three wins and two draws.
Blue Eagles, meanwhile, suffered their second defeat in five matches and remain fifth with seven points from two wins, one draw and two defeats.
Colombo FC are now one point behind leaders Up Country Lions SC, who have 12 points from four matches. Renown SC are third with 10 points from four games.
Lakmal Weerakkody refereed the match, with Palitha Hemathunga and Hirantha Piumal serving as assistant referees.
