COLOMBO, September 18 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s most prestigious amateur golf event, the 134th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship and the Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship, will tee off on September 23 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club and continue until September 28.
The tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, will once again be sponsored by the CEAT Europe range, with CEAT Kelani Holdings stepping in as partner for the second consecutive year.
At the press conference, CEAT Kelani Holdings Managing Director Ravi Dadlani said the partnership was a natural fit.
“Golf is a sport defined by precision, balance and control — qualities that resonate deeply with the CEAT Europe range,” he said. “Just as golfers demand steady focus and refined execution, our Europe range brings stability and confidence to driving. It is a privilege for us to support this championship again and celebrate the shared values of excellence and discipline.”
The men’s championship begins with two qualifying rounds on September 23 and 24. The top 32 players will advance to the match play stage from the 25th, with the 36-hole final scheduled for the 28th.
The Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Championship will run alongside the Ladies’ Stroke Play Championship. The eight best gross scores from the 24th and 25th will qualify for match play, which starts on the 26th. Scores returned across the first three days will decide the Ladies Stroke Play Champion.
Both the men’s and ladies’ amateur champions will be crowned on the final day.
The event will see participation from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan, along with private entries from India. Sri Lanka will defend the Zia-Ul-Haq Trophy against Pakistan, while the Parlakamedi Trophy will be contested among other national teams.
A host of silverware will add further prestige: the Victoria Cup for the lowest gross in the two qualifying rounds, the Illankoon Trophy for the lowest nett score, and the Pin Fernando and SLGU Trophies for the lowest scores on the second qualifying day.
Team awards include the Levers Shield and the Dudley Senanayake Cup. On September 24, the Leonard Pieris Cup and Firestone Jepson Cup will be presented, along with the Lilamani Weeraratne Trophy and another Pin Fernando Trophy covering the 24th and 25th.
Defending champion Jevahn Sathasivam, Sri Lanka’s current men’s amateur titleholder, will return to protect his crown. Sri Lanka’s number one female golfer Kaya Daluwatte will aim to repeat her rare double of winning both the Sri Lanka Amateur and Ladies Stroke Play titles.
They will be tested by number one junior golfer Reshan Algama, Jacob Norton, top ranked amateur Chalitha Pushpika, Uchitha Ranasinghe and emerging star Dhanushan Kumar, all hungry for their first major triumph.
