NUWARA ELIYA, November 7 (ePRESS) – Three golfers — S. Dhuwarshan, Sri Lanka’s top-ranked WAGR player K. Dhanushan, and professional golfer Wijitha Bandara — shared the joint lead on the opening day of the Sri Lanka Golf November Ranking Tournament which began at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC).
The trio produced identical scores of two-over-par 73, showing remarkable control and consistency under testing highland conditions.
Their composed performance in the cool and breezy climate gave them an early advantage in the four-day ranking event, which features some of the country’s top professional and amateur golfers.
Just one shot behind the leaders was P.D.S.U. Kumara, who finished the day with a solid round of 74 to remain well within striking distance. A close group of contenders — Uchitha Ranasinghe, B. Vinoth Kumar, and M.H. Chalitha Pushpika — followed with 76 each, keeping the competition tight at the top of the leaderboard.
Kaiyan Johnpillai, Husni Uwais, Kushal Johnpillai, and I.P. Pushpa Kumara all carded 79 to stay in contention, while seasoned golfer Chanaka Perera returned a score of 80.
In the ladies’ category, R.M.A.C. Rathnayaka took the early lead with a steady score of 83, ahead of K.U.D.N. Uluwaththa, who posted 88, and K.W.D.H.S. Wijegunarathna, who finished with 90.
The tournament will continue through the weekend, with players expected to adjust their strategies to the changing weather and course conditions at NEGC.
With the top three tied and the chasers just a few strokes behind, the next rounds promise a thrilling battle for the November ranking title.
