COLOMBO, August 16 (ePRESS) – Up Country Lions SC powered to a convincing 5-1 win over Ratnam SC at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, maintaining their perfect record and strengthening their lead at the top of the Super League 2025/26 standings.
Up Country Lions produced a dominant first-half display and raced to a 5-1 lead before the break, effectively settling the contest inside 45 minutes.
Benjamin York led the charge with two early goals in the fourth and 17th minutes to put Ratnam under immediate pressure.
Mohamed Akib added the third in the 23rd minute before Naveen Jude struck in the 38th minute as Up Country Lions continued to control the match.
Ratnam managed to pull one back through Alpo nes Christhuraj in the 20th minute, but it did little to stop the Lions’ attacking momentum.
Up Country Lions completed their five-goal first-half performance through Abdul Rahman Yahya, who found the net in the 19th minute according to the official match sheet.
There were no further goals after the break as Up Country Lions comfortably protected their advantage and completed another impressive victory.
Naveen Jude was named the Most Valuable Player for his contribution to the victory. Ratnam’s Manojkumar Nikessh was expelled at half-time.
The result extended Up Country Lions’ remarkable start to the competition. They have won all five matches and sit top of the standings with 15 points, scoring 21 goals and conceding only three.
Renown SC and Colombo FC are their closest challengers with 11 points each, while Ratnam remain at the bottom without a point after five straight defeats.
