MADRID, Spain, August 28 (ePRESS) – Sri Lankan racing driver Yevan David produced a strong finish to the FIA Formula 3 in-season testing in Madrid, Spain, climbing from 19th on the opening day to seventh overall on the second day after making a major improvement in pace for AIX Racing.
The two-day test, gave David and AIX Racing valuable track time as they prepare for the closing stages of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
David opened the test with a best lap of one minute 51.530 seconds. The time placed him 19th among the 30 drivers.
Freddie Slater set the fastest time of the opening day with 1:50.343, leaving David 1.187 seconds behind the pace-setter.
However, the Sri Lankan made a big step forward on the second day.
David lowered his best lap to 1:49.559, an improvement of 1.971 seconds from his opening-day effort. The faster lap pushed him up to an impressive seventh place overall.
Ugo Ugochukwu topped the second day’s timing sheets with 1:49.034, but David finished only 0.525 seconds behind the fastest lap.
The sharp reduction in the gap to the front was an encouraging sign for David and AIX Racing ahead of the final stages of the championship.
With the Madrid test completed, David will now turn his attention to Round Eight of the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the famous Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy from September 4 to 6.
The Monza meeting will be the penultimate round of the 2026 season and will give David another opportunity to carry his improved pace into race conditions and fight for more championship points.
His Madrid performance will provide an important boost as the Sri Lankan looks to finish the FIA Formula 3 season strongly with AIX Racing.
