COLOMBO, Apr 7 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka will bank on experience and youthful promise as Dulanjan Fernando and Ruel Wickramaratne lead the national challenge at the Canada Cup Diving Meet 2026 in Windsor from April 9 to 12.
Fernando, the country’s premier springboard diver, arrives in top form and full confidence. The former Royal College, Colombo athlete, now training in Australia on a scholarship, is Sri Lanka’s most seasoned competitor in international diving.
A finalist at the Commonwealth Games and a regular at the World Aquatics Championships, Fernando has built a reputation for precision and composure under pressure. His recent bronze medal at the Victoria Open Diving Championship 2026 signals sharp readiness, with expectations high for a clean and technically sound series in Windsor.
In contrast, 15-year-old Wickramaratne brings youthful energy and rising potential. The Royal College schoolboy, already the reigning national champion, has rapidly developed into one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting talents. Having become the country’s youngest national diver at just 14, he has continued to impress on the international circuit, including a silver medal in Hong Kong in 2023 and a strong medal haul at the 2024 Singapore National Championships.
Despite limited training infrastructure at home, Wickramaratne has shown remarkable adaptability, executing complex dives with confidence while meeting strict international standards. The Canada Cup will provide him with vital exposure and serve as a key stepping stone ahead of the Asian Games in Japan later this year.
Both divers will be under the guidance of National Coach Chanaka Wickramarasinghe, whose structured and disciplined approach has been central to Sri Lanka’s progress in the sport. With a blend of experience and emerging talent, Sri Lanka’s diving team will look to deliver a composed and competitive performance in Windsor.
