COLOMBO, May 17 (ePRESS) – The Maldives and Sri Lanka have moved to strengthen sports and youth cooperation after a high-level meeting between Maldives Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Physical Fitness Abdulla Rafiu and Sri Lanka Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage in the Maldives.
The two ministers held wide-ranging discussions at the Maldivian Ministry premises on expanding bilateral relations through long-term partnerships in youth development and sports. Both sides focused strongly on creating joint programmes aimed at improving the international standards and performances of athletes from both nations.
The discussions also centred on modern sports technology, coach education programmes and knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen the sporting structures of the two neighbouring countries.
In addition, the ministers explored ways to provide professional support for the development of technical expertise and sports infrastructure in the Maldives, further boosting cooperation between the two nations.
Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry said the diplomatic meeting is expected to open new opportunities for athletes, sports professionals and youth communities in both countries while promoting closer regional ties through sport and youth engagement.
