COLOMBO, May 29 (ePRESS) – The Asian International School (AIS) Alumni Association successfully launched the inaugural Inter-International Alumni Netball Carnival 2026, bringing together some of Sri Lanka’s finest international school netball talents and alumni teams in a memorable tournament that celebrated competition, friendship and sporting excellence at the Air Force Indoor Basketball Court in Colombo.
The landmark event, held on May 23, marked a major achievement for Asian International School as it created a unique platform for former students from leading international schools to reunite through sport while promoting teamwork, healthy competition and lifelong alumni connections.
The tournament attracted strong teams representing several prestigious international schools as well as elite club players. Participants displayed high-quality netball skills throughout the day, creating an exciting atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
The highly competitive tournament was eventually won by Honey Badgers, a premier club side featuring outstanding players from leading international schools and overseas. They produced a series of impressive performances to emerge as deserving champions.
The host team, Asian International School Alumni, enjoyed an excellent campaign and finished as runners-up after displaying determination, teamwork and fighting spirit throughout the competition. Their strong performance highlighted the quality of athletes produced by Asian International School over the years.
Lyceum International School Alumni secured third place, while Colombo International School Alumni and Royal Institute Alumni finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Several players received special awards for their outstanding individual performances. Rushika Paulas of Honey Badgers was crowned Netball Queen after a series of influential displays. Upeksha Narayana of Asian International School Alumni won the Best Defensive Player award for her excellent defensive efforts throughout the tournament.
Risini Niriella of Honey Badgers received the Best Offensive Player award, while Nethmini Silva of Lyceum International School Alumni was named the Most Improved Player. Royal Institute earned the Best Team Spirit award in recognition of their sportsmanship and positive attitude.
The success of the tournament was further enhanced by the presence of distinguished guests including Mrs. Vajira Neththicumara, President of the Sri Lanka Netball Federation, Asian International School Principal Harshana Perera and AIS Head of Sports Ms. Nihara Bagoos.
The AIS Alumni Association expressed its sincere appreciation to all players, officials, sponsors and supporters who contributed to the success of the inaugural event. The tournament not only showcased top-class netball talent but also strengthened the bonds between international school alumni, setting the stage for an even bigger competition in the years ahead.
