COLOMBO, June 6 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka enjoyed a memorable day at the SSC ITF J30 Week 2 Tennis Tournament as Aahil Kaleel advanced to the Boys’ Singles final while Dinara de Silva and Yuhansa Peiris set up an all-Sri Lankan Girls’ Singles final at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place, Colombo.
Aahil produced a fighting performance to overcome India’s Mirdha Vivaan in a thrilling Boys’ Singles semi-final. After sharing the first two sets, the Sri Lankan youngster held his nerve in the decisive match tie-break to secure a hard-fought 4-2, 2-4, 10-7 victory and book his place in the final.
In the other Boys’ Singles semi-final, India’s Chauhan Shiok defeated fellow Indian Punith Manchira 5-3, 4-2 to earn a place in the title clash. The final will now see Aahil taking on Chauhan in what promises to be an exciting battle for the championship.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka guaranteed itself the Girls’ Singles title after Dinara de Silva and Yuhansa Peiris won their respective semi-final encounters in convincing fashion.
Dinara was in outstanding form as she swept aside Maldives player Karin Saizan 4-1, 4-0. The Sri Lankan dominated from the start, allowing her opponent little room to settle into the contest.
Yuhansa also delivered a strong display to beat India’s Aahida Singh 5-4, 4-0. After a closely contested opening set, Yuhansa raised her game in the second set and completed the victory in style.
The results ensured an all-Sri Lankan Girls’ Singles final between Dinara and Yuhansa, guaranteeing local success in the tournament.
With Aahil carrying Sri Lanka’s hopes in the Boys’ event and Dinara and Yuhansa battling for the Girls’ crown, the finals promise to provide an exciting finish to the prestigious ITF J30 Week 2 tournament in Colombo.
