Holy Family Convent Under 13 Girls Basketball Team

KANDY, June 9 (ePRESS) Holy Family Convent (HFC), Bambalapitiya were crowned champions of the Under-13 All-Island Basketball Championship after defeating hosts Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy by 20-16 in a thrilling final played at the Mahamaya Girls’ School Indoor Court in Kandy recently.

Captain Amodhya Peiris led by example with an outstanding defensive performance. Her ability to read the game, shut down attacks and inspire her teammates earned her the Best Defensive Player award of the tournament.

Vice-captain Eleesha Dias emerged as the star performer for HFC. She delivered several important baskets, controlled the tempo of the game and created scoring opportunities for her teammates. Her impressive all-round contribution saw her win the Best Player award of the tournament.

The low-scoring 20-16 result reflected the intensity of the contest, with every point proving valuable. HFC’s strong defence and calm decision-making in the closing stages eventually secured the championship trophy.

The title-winning campaign was the result of months of hard work and preparation. The team benefited from the guidance of head coaches Roshan Randima Suriyaarachchi and Shane Daniel, while professional basketball coach Chamath Gimhana played a key role in developing the team’s tactical discipline and defensive resilience.

Strong support from Teacher-in-Charge Randima Jayasinghe and Principal Rev. Sr. Charitha Thandalge also contributed significantly to the team’s success and overall development.
