Jaeden tops Sri Lankan charge at Junior World Championship

JAKARTA, Indonesia, June 10 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Jaeden Sathasivam produced the country’s best performance on the opening day of the Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship 2026, finishing sixth in the Boys Development C Division after carding an impressive 11-over-par 83 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Competing against some of Asia’s leading young golfers, Jaeden held his own in a strong international field and emerged as the highest-placed Sri Lankan after the first round of the prestigious tournament.

Japan’s Hosono Yamato grabbed the early lead with a brilliant two-under-par 70, while compatriot Shota Suda occupied second place on level-par 72. Hong Kong’s Isaac Timso and Indonesia’s Dyllan Satriobudi shared third place on six-over-par 78.

Jaeden’s score of 83 placed him sixth overall and kept him within striking distance of the leading group with two more rounds remaining in the championship.

Fellow Sri Lankan Yuvan Rathis Kanth was placed 10th after returning a score of 93, while Abiman Abeywardhana finished the opening round in 12th position with a score of 95.

The Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship is one of the region’s leading junior golf events and has attracted promising young players from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos and Sri Lanka.

With two rounds still to be played, Jaeden remains Sri Lanka’s leading hope of securing a strong finish in Jakarta.
