BALI, Indonesia, June 17 (ePRESS) – Hussain Faham of S Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, made a memorable international debut by finishing 26th among Asia’s top swimmers in the Men’s 5km Open Water event at the 12th Asian Open Water Championships in Bali, Indonesia, while also meeting the newly strengthened World Aquatics qualifying standard.
The 16-year-old Sri Lankan swimmer competed with distinction against some of Asia’s finest open-water athletes.
Faham successfully completed the demanding 5km race and achieved the qualifying benchmark set by World Aquatics, a significant achievement for a swimmer making his first appearance at a major international championship.
The talented Thomian also contributed to Sri Lanka’s relay team, helping the country secure 10th place overall in the relay event against strong regional competition.
A swimmer trained at the Ghefari Dulapandan Swim School (GDSS), Faham displayed remarkable courage, discipline and determination throughout the championship, competing against older and more experienced swimmers from across Asia.
