Colombo, Jan 25, 6PM – The Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union has just revealed the lineup for the Sri Lanka Youth Water Polo Team, set to compete in the upcoming BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Sports Meet in New Delhi from February 5 to 10. This team, consisting of 15 members, is preparing for the competition in the Under-18 age category.
Notably, all players in the Sri Lanka Youth Water Polo Team are Under-17 athletes hailing from prominent water polo schools in Colombo. Their training has been intensive, taking place at the Royal, Air Force, and Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool, under the guidance of coaches Yasodha Wasalage and Chandula Fernando.
The 15-member team, led by captain Anuga Handunpathirana from Royal College, is preparing for action. Royal College takes the lead with nine players on the team, showcasing their strong presence. St Thomas’ College is represented by four players, while DS Senanayake College contributes two players to the talented squad. The diverse composition promises a spirited effort from this united team in upcoming competitions.
Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union General Secretary, Mahinda Liyanage, expressed the significance of this opportunity for the team. He mentioned, “This will be a huge experience for the team, as they will also be representing the same lineup at the Asian Age Group event scheduled from March 1 to 10 in New Clerk City in the Philippines.”
Heading the team management is HH Culasiri, a Committee Member of SLASU and one of its Vice Presidents. The BIMSTEC Meet will see participating teams from host India, Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The competition is set to be an exciting display of aquatic talent in the region.
