Wijemanne and Samarasinghe reach quarter-finals

Colombo, Jan 30, 7.10PM – Sri Lanka’s Methvan Wijemanne and Ivanka Samarasinghe have clinched spots in the quarter-finals of the ITF Junior Circuit – Week 2 at the SLTA Clay Courts in Colombo. Both players triumphed in their Round Stages, securing victories in the First Round and Second Round, setting the stage for quarterfinal clashes.

Wijemanne continued his form in the First Round by defeating Thailand’s Par Chandragholica with a decisive 2-0 victory. The Royal College standout dominated the match with set scores of 6-0 and 6-2. In the Second Round, Wijemanne continued his winning streak, outplaying India’s M. Diganath with another 2-0 win, securing victory with set scores of 6-2 and 6-2.

In the Women’s Singles, Second Round, Sri Lanka’s Ivanka Samarasinghe fought hard to defeat Singapore’s Salina Jayesh Vaidya with a commanding 2-0 victory, with set scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Samarasinghe faced a tough challenge in the First Round against Malaysia’s Alexendra Talina but emerged victorious with set scores of 7-6 and 7-6.

Adding to Sri Lanka’s success, Vichinthaya Nilaweera secured a win in his First Round match against Bo Zhi Leo of Chinese Taipei with stellar serving and rallies, clinching victory with set scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Dinara de Silva also shone in her First Round match against Aditi Paturi of the United States, securing a stunning 2-0 victory with set scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

However, Nilaweera and de Silva faced setbacks in the Second Round, losing their matches and falling short of advancing to the quarter-finals.
