Mount Lavinia, Mar 15, 8.30PM – At the start of the 85th Two-mile Sea Swim, backed by Mount Lavinia Hotel and organized by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, Chanudi Kumarapperuma from Lyceum International School Nugegoda triumphed in the Women’s Open. Meanwhile, Kewan Ranepura from Lyceum International School Gampaha and Suhansa Gamage from Musaeus College clinched victories in the Under-15 Boys and Girls sections. The event commenced at Mount Lavinia Hotel Public Beach.
In the Women’s Open, Chanudi clocked 49:54.49 for first place, followed by Anjali Agalawatte (49:57.38) from Zeefit Sports Club and Sehara Anuhansi (49:57.88) from Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda.
Kewan Ranepura secured first place in the boys’ Under-15 event with a time of 48:22.32. In second and third place were MS Silva (48:59.10) from Dharmasola College Ambalangoda and Joel Darshana (49:05.51) of St Joseph’s College.
Suhansa Gamage, a 13-year-old swimmer, won the Girls Under-15 category with a time of 53:01. Kaneisha de Silva from St Bridget’s Convent (53:10) and Iman Thambydorai from Ladies’ College (53:11) secured second and third place respectively.
Certificates will be awarded to swimmers up to the 25th place in each category, contributing to their team’s overall championship points.
The Men’s Open Two-mile Sea Swim is scheduled to start at 7:30 AM on Saturday, followed by the Awards Ceremony at Mount Lavinia Hotel Public Beach, which will be attended by Presidential Advisor Sagala Ratnayake.
