COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka Amateur Champion Jevahn Sathasivam of Asian International School proved once again that he has ice in his veins, clinching the DFCC-sponsored Faldo Golf Series Regional Final at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last week. As the first golfer from Sri Lanka to qualify, his third consecutive national-level victory not only added another feather to his cap but also secured his ticket to the Faldo Junior Tour – Asia Grand Final 2025, set to be held in Vietnam this April.
Starting six shots off the pace, the 16-year-old showed grit and resilience, taking it one shot at a time. Despite a shaky start with a two-over-par on Day 1, he turned the tide with a solid one-under-par on Day 2. It was on the final day, however, that Sathasivam truly hit it out of the park, delivering a nerveless two-under-par round to finish with a total score of 212 on the challenging par-71 course.
The overnight leader appeared to have the trophy within his grasp, but Sathasivam was determined not to give up. Staying calm and focused, he played his game with confidence, knowing that winning this title and securing his spot in Vietnam was the fulfillment of a dream. With his face beaming with pride, Sathasivam’s determination in the face of pressure was evident as he clinched the victory.
Sathasivam’s victory is his third straight national-level championship, following his wins at the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship and the Sri Lanka Junior Open last year. His ability to handle high-pressure situations has cemented his reputation as Sri Lanka’s top amateur golfer.
“He exemplifies the values we strive to instill in our students—perseverance, focus, and excellence.
He has proven time and again that he thrives under pressure, and his victories bring immense pride not just to our school but to Sri Lanka as a whole. We couldn’t be more thrilled to see him represent the country on such a prestigious stage in Vietnam,” said AIS Principal Harshana Perera.
Nihara Bagoos, Head of Sports at Asian International School, showered praise on the young star. “Jevahn has nerves of steel. His commitment and passion for the game are unmatched. He’s not just a champion for the school but an inspiration for every young athlete in the country,” she said.
The road now leads Sathasivam to the Faldo Junior Tour – Asia Grand Final, set to be hosted in April at the breathtaking Laguna Lang Co in Vietnam by legendary golfer Sir Nick Faldo. With this golden opportunity ahead, Sathasivam’s journey is shaping up to be a fairytale in the making.
