JAKARTA, Indonesia, June 13, 2025 (ePRESS) – Reshan Algama of Sri Lanka continued to shine on the international golf field by finishing tied for 7th place at the Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship 2025, which concluded at the Damai Indah Golf Course in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday.
The 69-player event came to a close, and Algama once again showed his class with steady rounds of 74, 69, and 72 for a total of 215. He shared the 7th position with India’s Mahird Rakhra, a strong competitor from the region.
This result is yet another major step forward for the 17-year-old, who has now firmly established himself as one of Sri Lanka’s most promising young golfers.
Algama has had a busy and impressive year so far. He competed at the junior level in Hong Kong and made an impact during the Nepal Amateur, where he proved he could challenge senior players too. This latest performance in Jakarta adds to his growing reputation as a player who can deliver results under pressure — whether among juniors or at the amateur senior level.
His strong showing in Indonesia is expected to earn him more points in the prestigious World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), giving a further boost to his international standing.
A shining light for Sri Lanka
For Sri Lanka, Algama’s name is now becoming closely linked with the country’s push to return to the international golf map. After years of limited success internationally, his steady rise offers real hope.
The Sri Lanka Golf Union and its Junior Development Committee have invested time and effort into identifying and nurturing talent at a young age. Algama’s recent success proves that this long-term plan is now bearing fruit.
While he did not win the title, finishing within the top 10 in a tough international field is no small achievement. The tournament was won by Indonesia’s Rayhan Abdul Latief, who finished at 205. He was followed closely by S. Suzuki of the Philippines and India’s Harman Sachdeva, both finishing at 206.
Another Sri Lankan in action
Sri Lanka’s current Amateur Champion and top ranked junior golfer in the country, Jevahn Sathasivam also took part in the same event. He posted rounds of 77, 78, and 75 for a total score of 230, placing him in a tie for 36th position. Though the result was not as strong as Algama’s, Sathasivam’s participation at this level is important for gaining experience and building confidence for future tournaments.
With this performance, Algama has not only made his country proud but also shown that Sri Lankan golfers can aim for the top at international events. His consistency, confidence, and calm under pressure make him a name to watch in the coming months.
