DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 31, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s top-ranked squash star Ravindu Laksiri, who recently broke into the world’s top 110, made the nation proud once again by finishing third at the ACI 6th Bangladesh International Squash Open PSA Tournament, which concluded in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Laksiri, the reigning national champion for more than a decade, returned to international competition after recovering from a challenging injury. Despite not being at full strength, he displayed strong performance to reach the semi-finals.
The Sri Lankan ace was seeded number one in the tournament, but a lingering injury affected his performance in the crucial semi-final, where he lost to Iran’s top player.
“Coming back after an injury wasn’t easy,” said Laksiri. “Although I couldn’t give my absolute best yet, just being back on court and competing again means a lot to me.”
He thanked the dedicated medical team led by Dr. Lal Ekanayake, Dr. Rukmal Karunanayake, Awarjana De Silva, and Sameera Kalyanapriya for guiding him through the recovery process.
Laksiri also expressed deep gratitude to FitsAir for sponsoring his air travel, and to Brandix for being the “backbone” of his journey. He further acknowledged the support of Priyan Fernando, Amanda Weerasinghe, Kapila Gunasekera, Fortunaglobal (Pvt) Ltd, Head 3G Sports, Yeti Isotonic Energy, Singhalese Sports Club, and the Air Force Squash Team.
Currently ranked 110 in the world, Laksiri remains one of the most consistent and inspirational figures in Sri Lankan squash.
“Let’s keep pushing forward—with purpose and passion,” he added, vowing to aim higher in the coming months.
