COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, August 3, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s tourism industry saw a strong rebound in July 2025, with monthly arrivals crossing the 200,000 mark once again after three slower months.
According to official figures, the country welcomed 200,244 visitors in July – an 8% rise compared to July last year. This growth ends a quiet spell in April, May, and June, each of which recorded fewer than 200,000 arrivals.
India remained the leading source market with 37,128 tourists, followed by the United Kingdom with 23,475 and the Netherlands with 15,556. China returned to the top five, sending 12,982 visitors in July, placing fourth.
Arrivals from Russia and Germany, however, dropped compared to previous months.
Industry experts expect tourist numbers from India to grow even further with the recent launch of a new casino by Melco Resorts & Entertainment at the NUWA Hotel, part of Cinnamon’s ‘City of Dreams’ project in Colombo.
From January to July 31, Sri Lanka has welcomed 1,368,288 tourists. The tourism sector earned US$1.712 billion so far this year, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Officials hope this momentum will continue as the country promotes new attractions and benefits from growing regional travel demand.
