COLOMBO, Aug 7 (ePRESS) – The Pathfinder Foundation, a leading independent and non-partisan think tank in Sri Lanka, has strengthened its leadership by appointing two highly respected professionals as Distinguished Fellows, the organisation announced this week.
The newest appointment is Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, a veteran economist and former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury. Dr. Samaratunga also held senior positions at the Ministries of Environment and Petroleum Industries, bringing decades of experience in public policy and economic governance.
Earlier this year, the Foundation welcomed Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage, former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, to its ranks. After retiring from the Navy, Admiral Colombage served as Additional Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and most recently, as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Indonesia. He has also served as a Director at the Pathfinder Foundation.
These appointments come as part of the Foundation’s efforts to enhance its capacity to contribute to economic reform, geopolitics, ocean affairs, and strategic studies—areas it views as critical to Sri Lanka’s development and regional relevance.
Desamanya Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, remains the longest-serving Distinguished Fellow at the Foundation. A highly regarded economist, Dr. Coomaraswamy previously worked at the Commonwealth Secretariat and also served as Deputy Chairman of the Pathfinder Foundation before taking up the Central Bank post.
The Pathfinder Foundation noted that these senior figures will play a key role in providing insights and expertise to help shape national and regional dialogue on important policy matters.
With a growing team of experts, the Foundation continues to position itself as a hub for serious research and dialogue on Sri Lanka’s economic, strategic, and maritime future.
