SLINTEC achieves ISO milestone to power agri-food exports

COLOMBO, August 15, 2025 (ePRESS) – The Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) has achieved a major breakthrough with its Advanced Analytical Services Laboratory receiving ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB).

The internationally recognised accreditation confirms the lab’s technical ability to carry out vital food safety tests demanded by both local and international markets. SLINTEC is now officially authorised to conduct aflatoxin testing, phthalate detection, and nutritional analysis in line with front-of-pack labelling rules. These tests are crucial for agri-food producers to meet strict safety and regulatory standards in markets such as the European Union, United States, and Middle East.

“This accreditation allows us to offer the food industry a trusted local partner to meet international requirements without delay or prohibitive costs,” said Prof. Saman Seneweera, Interim CEO of SLINTEC. He credited the European Union-funded BESPA-FOOD project, implemented by UNIDO, for its support through the Accreditation Readiness Programme.

SLINTEC sees the recognition as more than compliance — calling it a step toward strengthening Sri Lanka’s food innovation ecosystem. By offering fast turnaround times, competitive pricing, and results accepted worldwide, the institute aims to help manufacturers, exporters, and entrepreneurs from product development to regulatory approval.

“This is a practical tool for competitiveness and a strategic step forward for the country’s export ambitions,” Prof. Seneweera added.

With international demand for safe, high-quality food on the rise, SLINTEC’s accredited services will give Sri Lankan producers the confidence to meet market expectations and compete strongly in the international level.
