COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Aug 25, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s export sector has shown strong resilience and steady growth, with total exports reaching nearly US$10 billion in the first seven months of this year, official data showed Monday.
Exports stood at US$9,992.53 million from January to July 2025, marking a 7.79 percent rise compared to the same period last year, according to the Export Development Board (EDB).
In July alone, Sri Lanka earned US$1,641.11 million from exports of goods and services, an increase of 12.68 percent year-on-year.
“This encouraging growth highlights Sri Lanka’s increasing integration into global trade and the success of our continued efforts to strengthen export competitiveness while diversifying market opportunities,” said EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe.
He said surpassing US$1.6 billion in July and reaching almost US$10 billion in seven months reflected the resilience and adaptability of exporters in facing global challenges.
“While we celebrate this progress, we remain cautious of uncertainties ahead. With continued efforts to enhance competitiveness and diversify markets, we are confident of achieving the 2025 export target,” Wijesinghe added.
The EDB said the performance underlined the effectiveness of strategies to broaden market access and enhance global competitiveness.
