COLOMBO, Sept 1, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB) has launched a fresh push to support small businesses in the handicrafts, giftware, lifestyle, and toy sectors with a specialized awareness session for potential exporters.
The program, organized by the Trade Facilitation and Trade Information Division of the EDB, brought together 100 Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs who showed strong potential to step into global markets. The event aimed to build their knowledge and capacity to become successful exporters.
Kumudinie Mudalige, Acting Additional Director General – Development of the EDB, said Sri Lankan handicrafts and toy products hold global appeal. “These products carry a unique story, rooted in tradition yet full of potential for modern global markets. This makes the sector an important contributor not only to export growth but also to strengthening Sri Lanka’s image as a nation of artistry and innovation,” she said.
A highlight of the program was the experience-sharing session by S.H.B. Karunaratne, Managing Director of Art Decoration International (Pvt) Ltd, who shared his success story and valuable insights with the participants.
The initiative also featured four specialized technical sessions covering critical aspects of export business, from product standards to market access.
By addressing these essential areas, the EDB hopes to help SME entrepreneurs in the handicrafts, giftware, lifestyle, and toy sectors successfully expand into global markets. The program reflects the EDB’s continued commitment to growing Sri Lanka’s value-added manufacturing exports.
