COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, December 2 Tuesday (ePRESS) – Horizon College International (HCI), Malabe, delivered one of the strongest and most efficient performances at the 30th Inter-International Schools Swimming Championships (IISSC) 2025, held recently at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex in Colombo.
With just a few swimmers, HCI smashed three meet records, claimed an age group championship, and scored an impressive 204 points despite fielding a small team. The highlight of the meet was young star Sandini Nihinsa, who won the Under-10 Girls Age Group Championship with two gold medals, one silver, and two new meet records.
Sandini delivered a stunning record in the Under-10 Girls 100m Freestyle, where she touched the wall in 1:20.75, breaking an 11-year-old record set in 2014. She then produced her second record in the Under-10 Girls 50m Backstroke, winning gold in 40.45, bettering the eight-year-old record set in 2017. Sandini also claimed silver in the 50m Freestyle with 35.97, collecting 44 points to secure the age group title.
Another HCI emerging swimmer, Yashasvi Ekanayake, also broke a meet record in the Under-10 Girls 50m Freestyle, where she won gold in 35.15, beating the previous record set in 2023. Yashasvi added two silver medals — one in the 100m Freestyle with 1:20.96, and another in the 200m Individual Medley with 3:36.38 — giving HCI more valuable points and lifting the Under-10
Girls to one of the strongest divisions of the meet.
Rithosha Aadullya earned a silver medal for HCI in the Under-12 Boys 50m Butterfly, finishing in 36.86, while Minuthi Dissanayake brought home a bronze medal in the Under-14 Girls 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:37.22.
HCI’s relay teams also shone brightly. The Under-10 Girls 4×50 Freestyle Relay team — Sandini Nihinsa, Shenaya Karasinghe, Ruhinya Aheli, and Yashasvi Ekanayake — powered to gold in 2:32.90, setting a new meet record by breaking a nine-year-old mark set in 2014. The same combination returned for the 4×50 Medley Relay, finishing second in 3:02.93, adding another
podium finish for the school.
With three new meet records, an age group championship, multiple individual medals, and a record-breaking relay, Horizon College International emerged as one of the top performers of IISSC 2025. Their success proved the school’s growing strength in competitive swimming and marked a proud milestone for their young and fast-improving athletes.
