COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, January 8 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s number one junior golfer Reshan Algama produced a brilliant eight-under-par round to surge to the top of the leaderboard on Day Two of Round One of the Faldo Junior Tour – Faldo Series Sri Lanka 2026, sponsored by DFCC Bank, which continued at the Royal Colombo Golf Club on Wednesday.
Algama fired a superb gross score of 63 on the par-71 course, lifting his two-day total to 134, the lowest score of the tournament so far. His calm control off the tee and sharp putting set him apart from the field as he opened a clear lead going into the next round.
Sri Lanka’s top-ranked amateur Dhanushan Kumar stayed in strong contention after carding a solid four-under-par 68, taking his total to 139 and holding second place.
In the women’s category, Kaya Daluwatte maintained her overall lead despite a tougher second round. She returned a 77, but her steady opening round kept her two-day total at 142, enough to remain on top among the girls.
Age Group 17–21 (18 holes – Boys Black Tee / Girls Red Tee)
Algama led the field with scores of 71 and 63. Dhanushan followed with 71 and 68, while Daluwatte placed third overall with 65 and 77. Rayan Ahmed (146) and Jacob Norton and Nirekh Tejwani (147 each) completed the top six. Overseas golfers Neil Nair (UAE) and Nikhil Pande (USA) were also among the leading pack.
Age Group 13–16 (18 holes – Boys Black Tee / Girls Red Tee)
India’s Vivaan Ubhayakar topped this category with consistent rounds of 70 and 73 for 143. Fellow Indian Karmanye Mahajan finished second on 150, followed by Adhithya Weerasinghe on 152. Several Sri Lankan juniors, including Kaiyan Johnpillai, Thejas Rathis Kanth, and Lavidu Premarathna, remained competitive in a tightly packed leaderboard.
Age Group 11–12 (9 holes – Blue Tee)
Bangladesh’s Syed Mahdi Mahbeer dominated with an excellent 65 total (36, 29). Jaeden Sathasivam (72) and Vivaan Singh of India (73) followed closely, showing strong early promise.
Age Group 9–10 (9 holes – Boys Blue Tee / Girls Pink Tee)
Pakistan’s Ayra Athar Yasin led the category with 71, while Abinan Abeyawardena and Aashna Amogha of India shared second place on 78.
Age Group 7–8 (9 holes – Pink Tee)
Rahein Manathunga topped the youngest division with 89, ahead of Thangaraja Onitha Ometh (95). Youngsters displayed enthusiasm and confidence, highlighting the depth of junior golf talent on show.
