Daluwatte and Algama trade blows in Faldo classic

COLOMBO, January 12, Monday (ePRESS) – Kaya Daluwatte and Reshan Algama produced a thrilling head-to-head battle to headline the DFCC Faldo Junior Tour – Faldo Series Sri Lanka 2026, with Kaya emerging as the Overall Champion and Girls’ 17–21 winner, while Reshan claimed the Boys’ 17–21 title after record-breaking golf at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last week.

The spotlight was firmly on the senior junior category (17–21), where Kaya Daluwatte and Reshan Algama finished tied at eight under par overall, forcing the overall title to be decided on scorecard countback. Kaya edged ahead with a countback of 3/3/4 (10) against Reshan’s 3/4/4 (11) to be crowned Overall Champion of the Faldo Series Sri Lanka 2026.

In the Boys’ 17–21 category, Reshan Algama delivered one of the finest performances of the tournament. He won the title with a total score of 205, finishing eight under par, highlighted by a stunning course-record 63 on Day Two. His consistency over four rounds set him apart from the field. Sri Lanka’s number one ranked amateur K. Dhanushan finished runner-up with 212 (one under par), while Rayan Ahmed and Nirekh Tejwani shared third on 219. Other strong performers included Jacob Norton (221), Jevahn Sathasivam (223) and Neil Nair of the UAE (224), underlining the international flavour of the event.

The Girls’ 17–21 category belonged to Kaya Daluwatte, who claimed the title with a total of 208, finishing eight under par. Her rounds of 65, 77, 66 showed resilience and calm under pressure. Dhanushi Vimudana Wanasinghe finished runner-up with 295, while the overall standings also featured consistent efforts from Dhanushi Vimudana Wanasinghe, Thiumi Gunasekera, and Mushfika Muzammil.

In the 13–16 age group, India’s Vivaan Ubhayakar topped the boys’ category with a winning total of 215, ahead of compatriot Karmanye Mahajan (222), while Sri Lanka’s Adhithya Weerasinghe (229) finished third. In the girls’ division, Mira Bisineer Agrawal of India claimed the title with 258, with Lorance Sithara Dedunu finishing runner-up on 267.

In the 11–12 age group, Syed Mahdi Mahbeer of Bangladesh won the boys’ title with an outstanding 98, which included a remarkable 10 under par performance, while Vivaan Singh of India was runner-up on 105. In the girls’ section, Vihara Herath claimed the title with 133, ahead of Dulkini Subanya Kangara (141).

In the 9–10 age group, Pakistan’s Ayra Athar Yasin won the girls’ title with 109, while Aashna Amogha of India finished runner-up on 115. The boys’ title went to Abiman Wickramasinghe Abeywardene with 115, ahead of Jayith Minhas Guruge (125). The youngest 7–8 age group saw Kyra Cader win the girls’ title with 161, while Thangarajah Onith Ometh won the boys’ event with 139, edging out Rahein Manathunga on countback.

Founded by Nick Faldo, the Faldo Series continues to focus on both performance and character, and the 2026 Sri Lanka leg lived up to that vision. The dramatic duel between Kaya Daluwatte and Reshan Algama, decided only by countback after identical scores, marked one of the most memorable finishes in the history of the event and underlined Sri Lanka’s bright future in world junior golf.
