COLOMBO, January 21 (ePRESS) — Mayooran Kubherane of St Peter’s College and Sahansa Damsiluni of Visakha Vidyalaya showed maturity beyond their years to win the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-16 singles titles at the YETI SSC Open Tennis Championship 2026, concluded at the SSC Tennis Courts in Maitland Place, Colombo.

In the Boys’ Under-16 final, Mayooran Kubherane delivered a disciplined all-court performance to defeat his schoolmate Ashlin de Silva 6/2, 6/3. From the opening games, Mayooran used depth and consistency from the baseline to push his opponent back. He served with accuracy, protected his service games well and took his break chances early, which allowed him to dictate the rhythm of the match.

Mayooran’s strength lay in shot selection. He avoided risky strokes, kept the ball in play and waited for short returns before finishing points. His movement was sharp, and his ability to reset rallies under pressure showed strong match awareness, a key factor in his straight-sets victory.

The Girls’ Under-16 final was more competitive in the opening stages, but Sahansa Damsiluni gradually imposed her control to beat Navya Banagala 7/5, 6/2. The first set was closely fought, with both players trading breaks. Sahansa stayed patient in long rallies and raised her level at crucial moments to edge the set.

In the second set, Sahansa increased her intensity. She improved her return game, applied pressure on Navya’s serve and shortened points when opportunities appeared. Her balance between defence and attack proved decisive as she pulled away to seal the title.
