COLOMBO, February 2 (ePRESS) – Yuhansa Peiris of Bishop’s College produced a fine all-round display to win the Girls’ Under-18 Singles title at the YETI SSC Open Tennis Championships, played at the SSC Tennis Courts in Colombo.
In the final, Yuhansa beat Annaya Norbert of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, in straight sets. She won 6/3, 6/2 after keeping good control of the rallies with steady ground strokes and quick footwork. Yuhansa stayed calm under pressure and used the full court well to finish points.
Earlier, in the semi-final, Yuhansa defeated Gehansa Methnadhi 6/4, 6/2 to earn her place in the final. She showed strong defence and smart shot selection to close the match in two sets.
Yuhansa had an excellent tournament overall. Apart from winning the Under-18 Singles crown, she also became the Mixed Doubles champion and finished as the Women’s Singles runner-up.
