COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Mar 29 (ePRESS) The Ceylon Boxing Federation successfully conducted a major fundraising raffle draw in Colombo on Saturday night, marking a strong and meaningful step to support the welfare of Sri Lanka’s veteran boxers while strengthening the sport’s financial foundation.

The initiative, approved by the Federation’s Executive Committee, formed part of its broader vision to uplift boxing and care for those who have served the sport with distinction.

The project was spearheaded by retired SSP Rohana Ajith Gunarathne, a former boxer of St. Sylvester’s College, whose leadership played a key role in organising the event. His careful planning and professional coordination ensured the success of the programme.

Funds raised through the raffle will be directed towards several welfare programmes aimed at supporting Sri Lanka’s veteran boxing community. A key highlight is the proposed Death Donation Fund, introduced by CBF President Dushantha Kiriella, which aims to provide financial assistance to former boxers and their families during times of bereavement.

The event drew the presence of several distinguished guests and members of the boxing fraternity. Among them was Udeni Kiridena, a three-star international referee who officiated at the Rio Olympic Games, who attended as Chief Guest. Several past champion boxers were also present, adding prestige and inspiration to the occasion.

This initiative underlines the Federation’s renewed commitment not only to developing competitive boxing but also to ensuring the welfare and recognition of those who have represented the country in the ring. With strong leadership and community support, the CBF continues to move towards building a sustainable and inclusive future for boxing in Sri Lanka.
