COLOMBO, Sept 1, 2025 (ePRESS) – Associated Motorways (Pvt) Limited (AMW), the sole distributor for Yamaha in Sri Lanka, has stepped up action to stop the rising sale of counterfeit Yamaha motorcycle spare parts.
In a joint operation with the Sri Lanka Police, AMW carried out raids in the Eastern Province, targeting outlets that sold fake parts. Legal action has already been taken against those involved.
Counterfeit parts, though similar in appearance, do not meet Yamaha’s safety and quality standards. Items such as brake pads, spark plugs, filters, and cables often fail quickly, reduce performance, and put riders and passengers in danger. Even the smallest fake part, AMW warned, can cause serious accidents on the road.
The company urged customers to look for the Yamaha Genuine Parts & Accessories logo and the AMW hologram sticker on packaging to ensure authenticity. Riders are advised to buy spare parts only from authorised AMW-Yamaha dealers and to check the quality, colour, and finish of the products. Dealers can also confirm authenticity if customers are unsure.
Selling counterfeit motorcycle parts is a criminal offence under Sri Lankan law. AMW stressed that such practices not only endanger lives but also damage the reputation of trusted global brands. To tackle this, AMW and law enforcement are continuing strong measures, including market surveillance and “mystery shopper” initiatives.
AMW said it remains committed to protecting Yamaha riders across Sri Lanka by working closely with authorities and raising awareness about the risks of counterfeit parts. The company also pledged to pursue strict legal action against all producers, distributors, and sellers of fake products.
