DAMBULLA, Sri Lanka, September 2 (ePRESS)– The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has reaffirmed its role as a leader in digital payments by actively promoting QR transactions at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s (CBSL) “Pay Digital Dambulla” campaign.
The event took place at the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre, one of the busiest wholesale and retail hubs in the country. It marked a major step in encouraging cashless payments in rural and semi-urban areas.
Ahead of the campaign, Commercial Bank carried out strong merchant engagement in Dambulla, ensuring that traders were ready to accept payments through LANKAQR, Visa QR, MasterCard QR, UnionPay QR, WeChat Pay QR, Alipay QR, and India’s UPI QR. This gave merchants one of the widest QR acceptance facilities in Sri Lanka.
To boost adoption, the Bank also offered customer discounts of up to 25% and special reward programmes for merchants. These incentives were aimed at building confidence in digital payments and promoting repeat transactions.
The campaign was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank as Chief Guest, together with senior CBSL officials, representatives from global payment networks, and industry leaders.
Commercial Bank’s stall at the venue drew strong crowds, offering demonstrations, customer education, and on-the-spot merchant activations.
“We are proud to partner with the Central Bank in this national initiative,” said Seevali Wickramasinghe, Chief Manager – Card Centre at Commercial Bank.
