Confident Yuhansa eyes semi-final spot

Yuhansa Peiris 2

COLOMBO, Feb 17 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s promising junior Yuhansa Peiris led the home charge with a composed straight-set victory to book her place in the quarter-finals of the J30 ITF Colombo Week 4 Tennis Tournament worked off at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo.

Yuhansa overcame Ai Shin Huang of Taipei 7-6, 6-2 in the girls’ second round, displaying maturity and calmness under pressure. The opening set was tightly contested, with both players engaging in long baseline rallies. Yuhansa held her nerve in the tie-break, using smart placement and steady serving to gain the upper hand. Once she secured the first set, the Sri Lankan raised her intensity in the second, breaking early and dictating play with confidence to wrap up the match in straight sets.

In the boys’ second round, Ganuka Fernando delivered a dominant performance to defeat Austria’s Chris Jovan Gubza 6-0, 6-4. Ganuka completely controlled the first set, not conceding a single game, as he struck clean winners and forced errors from his opponent. Though the Austrian attempted a comeback in the second set, the Sri Lankan maintained his rhythm and closed out the contest comfortably.

Yuhansa and Ganuka will now look to maintain their momentum as they chase semi-final spots in the international junior event.
