NUWARA ELIYA, November 24, Monday (ePRESS) – Abhiman Abeywardhana of Golf Club Anuradhapura (GCA) produced a commanding performance to win the Copper Division title at the Nuwara Eliya Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025, organised by Sri Lanka Golf and sponsored by PRIMA. The three-day event concluded on Sunday in cool and testing conditions in Nuwara Eliya.
The 10-year-old emerging golfer from Anuradhapura played with strong discipline and surprising maturity. Abhiman kept his rhythm across all three rounds and finished with a brilliant aggregate of 119, achieved through scores of 38, 42 and 39. His consistency under pressure made him the clear winner of the Copper Division (10 years and under – 9 holes).
Usara Nugegoda of GCA claimed the runner-up position with a total of 134, after rounds of 45, 44 and 45. W.M. Thisura Premarathna of Anuradhapura secured third place with 144. The Copper Division boys’ field also included steady efforts from Thewusas Etipola (159), Themiya Thejan Sri Thilakarathna (163), and Kenuka Bandara (167), who battled windy conditions on the Nuwara Eliya fairways.
In the girls’ Copper Division, Thangaraja Sanuthi Sithumli of Colombo took top honours with a total of 177 after three rounds of 51, 61 and 65. She held off a tight challenge from runner-up Pradeep Hakshhara of Nuwara Eliya, who finished just three strokes behind on 180. Devindi Umayangana Ekanayake (182) and Dinara Perera (189) also delivered promising performances.
This year has been a remarkable season for Abhiman. He won the Copper Division Match Play title at the Rukmini Kodagoda Trophy for Perera and Sons event, finished runner-up at the Prima Kandy tournament, and also captured the is title in Nuwara Eliya.
