Colombo, Jan 23, 6PM – The Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) has unveiled the dynamic duo, siblings Matheesha Marambe and Kithmi Marambe, as the captains leading the nine-member Sri Lanka Diving team at the upcoming BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Sports Meet in New Delhi, India. The much-anticipated event is scheduled to unfold from February 5 to 10.
The Sri Lankan diving team, comprising five boys and four girls, is gearing up for the six-day competition. Matheesha Marambe, from Royal College, takes the helm as the captain of the boys’ team, supported by fellow Royalists Mikhail Jayaweera, Yusuf Shihar, Ruel Wickramarathne, and Venuka Kankanamge.
Kithmi Marambe, representing Bishop’s College, leads the talented girls’ team, which includes Vinudi Kankanamge from Visakha Vidyalaya, Shania Silva from Bishop’s College, and Kisara Ranawaka from St Bridget’s Convent.
Adding expertise to the team, Chanaka Wickramasinghe steps in as the Diving Coach, while Janaka Biyanwila assumes the role of Diving Judge, providing valuable insights for the competition. Ms. Sumanthri Samarawickrama takes charge as the Diving Team Manager, ensuring seamless operations and strong support for the athletes.
The BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Sports Meet will showcase three exciting aquatic disciplines: swimming, diving, and water polo. With a squad of 95 athletes participating across these categories, Sri Lanka aims to make a splash and underline its prowess in aquatic sports.
This year’s edition of the competition features teams from seven countries, including host India, Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Nepal. As the Sri Lankan diving team readies for the challenge, expectations soar for a stellar performance at this prestigious international meet.
