Ganuka survives test to enter ITF J30 quarter-finals

COLOMBO, Feb 4 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Ganuka Fernando moved into the quarter-finals after a fine three-set victory in the boys’ second round of the ITF J30 Colombo Sri Lanka Week 2 tennis tournament, played at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo.

Ganuka showed strong fighting spirit to defeat Xiande He of China 3/6, 6/2, 6/2. After dropping the first set, the Sri Lankan controlled the rallies with improved consistency and better movement, dominating the next two sets to seal the match.

In another boys’ second-round match, Sri Lanka’s Saha Kapilasena bowed out after a tough contest against Jialing Guo of China, going down 7/5, 2/6, 6/2 despite a strong effort in the opening sets.

In the girls’ second round, Sri Lanka’s Annaya Norbert was defeated by Akari Oda of Japan, who won in straight sets 7/6, 6/0 after a closely fought first set.

Ganuka Fernando is scheduled to play his boys’ quarter-final match tomorrow, as he continues his impressive run in the tournament.
