NUWARA ELIYA, November 22, Saturday (ePRESS) – Young golf prodigy Abhiman Abeywardhana of Golf Club Anuradhapura produced a strong and scientific performance on Day 2 of the Nuwara Eliya Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025, organized by the Sri Lanka Golf, held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club.
Competing in the Copper Division for boys aged 10 and under, Abhiman, a 10-year-old student at Lyceum International School Anuradhapura, displayed a clean, powerful swing and sharp course management. His ability to handle the fast greens, narrow fairways and swirling winds of Nuwara Eliya helped him dominate the field from the very first round. He produced impressive rounds of 38, 42, and a final gross total of 80, staying comfortably ahead of his rivals through steady putting and disciplined shot selection.
Behind him, fellow GCA youngster Usara Nugegoda finished second with a total of 89 after rounds of 45 and 44. Jayith Guruge of Ananda College secured third place with 93, while other competitors struggled to match Abhiman’s precision on the challenging high-altitude course. Coaches and officials described his performance as “scientific” because of his methodical approach on every hole, showing patience and tactical awareness unusual for a player of his age.
The girls’ category also produced exciting performances. Thangaraja Sanuthi Sithumli claimed the top spot in the Girls Copper Division with a total of 112. Devindi Umayangana Ekanayake, Dinara Perera, and Pradeep Hakshhara all finished close together on 124, marking a tight contest for the podium places.
With the final day approaching, all attention remains on Abhiman Abeywardhana, whose powerful yet calculated style of play continues to make him one of the most promising young golfers emerging from Sri Lanka’s junior ranks.
