WATTALA: (ePRESS) – Dilushi Dilshara, a 13-year-old student from Champion Lyceum International School Wattala, emerged as the shining star of the 48th National Age Group Swimming Championship, held recently at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool. Dilshara’s remarkable performance not only secured her the title of Under-15 Girls Champion but also brought glory to her school and country.
Competing in her first year in the Under-15 age group, Dilshara displayed unparalleled skill and talent, clinching an impressive haul of three gold medals and two silver medals across five events. Her total of 21 points catapulted her to victory, surpassing formidable opponents like India’s Saumya Sachdeva and Rushalee Dissanayake of Musaeus College.
Dilshara’s exceptional contribution played a pivotal role in securing Lyceum International School Wattala’s inaugural girls championship win at the National Age Group Swimming, as the team amassed a total of 341 points, triumphing over 52 schools and swimming clubs in the fiercely contested event.
Known for her mastery in breaststroke and individual medley events, Dilshara delivered excellent performances throughout the competition. She set new personal records in the 200m Breaststroke, clocking an impressive 3:03.40, while also dominating the 200m and 400m Individual Medley events with times of 2:44.47 and 5:27.25 respectively.
In addition to her gold medal-winning feats, Dilshara displayed her versatility by securing silver medals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events, with impressive timings of 38.72 and 1:26.61 respectively, contributing significantly to her school’s overall success.
Despite her tender age, Dilshara’s talent has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. As the youngest member of the 48-member Sri Lankan swimming team, she represented her country with distinction at the 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championship held in the Philippines last December, further cementing her status as a rising star in the Lankan swimming.
