COLOMBO, January 28 (ePRESS) – Horizon College International (HCI) produced a remarkable double campaign in the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball season, with their Under-17 girls’ team crowned “C” Division champions with Tarisha De Silva named Girls Best Player, and the boys’ finishing runners-up in the B Division, after a long series of matches.
HCI Girls began the tournament in the “B” Division, but their steady rise ended with the C Division title. Their journey began when Horizon defeated Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, 30–17. They continued their strong run, beating St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo 40–12 and Presbyterian College, Dehiwala 44–8.
Horizon dominated Lyceum International School, Wattala 46–18. They then faced a setback on 16 November, losing 18–32 to Colombo International School. Horizon bounced back in Qualifier 1, defeating Lyceum Nugegoda 39–30. The final was one-sided. HCI defeated Lyceum Nugegoda 44–18 to seal the C Division Girls’ Championship.
The Horizon boys also enjoyed a powerful season, with a narrow 53–50 win over Lyceum Nugegoda. They built momentum with victories over Mahanama College, Colombo (53–38), Asian International School (76–56), and Nalanda College, Colombo (56–51).
Further wins followed against St. Thomas’ International College, Seeduwa (61–43), Richmond College, Galle (64–46), and Rahula College, Matara (64–47). In Qualifier 1, Horizon outplayed Mahanama College 67–44 to reach the final. However, in the final, Nalanda College 53 edged out Horizon College International 52, denying them the title by a single point.
