BANKOK, November 3, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s junior golf celebrated one of its proudest moments on Sunday as young Asian Youth Games medalist Kaya Daluwatte produced a stunning final-round charge to win the 2025 Thai Singha Junior World Golf Championship at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course in Thailand.
She fired a brilliant three-under-par 69 on the final day to finish with 215 (−1), edging out Japan’s Rinka Nakayama by two shots. Her consistent rounds of 71, 75, and 69 showed her calm focus and competitiveness.
The victory made history as the first-ever win by a Sri Lankan girl at the Thai Singha Junior Championship — a milestone that underlines the country’s junior golf. It came just a few day after Kaya’s bronze medal at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
While Kaya took top honours, Sri Lanka’s boys also impressed. Reshan Algama, the nation’s top-ranked junior and, finished a strong 8th with a total of 221 (+5).
Adhithya Weerasinghe (233) finished 14th, and Thejas Rathiskanth (245) took 21st.
Sri Lanka Golf Coach and Manager Mithun Perera hailed the result as a “turning point” for the nation’s junior program, the result of years of grassroots development and dedicated coaching.
“This is a proud day for Sri Lanka. Kaya and Reshan have proven that our young players can compete and win at the highest level in Asia,” said Mithun Perera, the Team Manager cum Coach of Sri Lanka Golf. (www.epress.lk)
