COLOMBO, October 10 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Mayooran Kubherane captured the Boys’ Singles title at the ATF Under-16 C2 Colombo Week 1 Tournament, defeating compatriot Ashlin de Silva in an all-Sri Lankan final at the SLTA courts in Colombo.
Top-seeded Kubherane produced another strong performance to overcome second seed and Sri Lanka’s top-ranked Under-16 player, Ashlin de Silva, 6-4, 3-0, before Ashlin was forced to retire due to injury.
Just a day earlier, the two schoolboys from St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, had joined forces to win the Boys’ Doubles title, continuing their impressive form on home soil.
Kubherane’s latest victory comes after an excellent run on the international circuit. Two weeks ago, he won the Singles title in the first week of the ATF Maldives Junior Open 2025, and earlier finished runner-up in the same series’ opening leg.
Both players are trained under veteran coach Dinith Pathiraja, who has been guiding them through their rapid rise in junior tennis.
The ATF Under-16 C2 Colombo Week 2 Tournament will begin on Monday at the same venue. However, Kubherane will skip the event, as he and Ganuka Fernando will travel to Pakistan to represent Sri Lanka at an upcoming ITF Junior Tournament.
