COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Rushalee Dissanayake of Musaeus College shone brightly at the 49th MILO All Island Schools Aquatic Championship, setting a new meet record in the Under-14 Girls 100m Freestyle on the second day of the competition at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex.
Dissanayake clocked an impressive 1:05.11, breaking the previous record of 1:05.14 set by Hiruki de Silva of Gateway College Colombo in 2018. This is Rushalee’s second record at the meet. On the opening day, the 13-year-old swimmer set a new record in the Under-14 Girls 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:59.52, surpassing the previous record of 5:10.06 set by Udeshika Biyanwila of Bishop’s College in 1980.

In other highlights, Heshara de Silva of Lyceum International School Ratnapura set a new meet record in the Under-14 Girls 50m Backstroke event on the opening day. She clocked 33.87 in the heats, breaking the previous record of 34.38 set by Vandani Fernando of Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya in 2022.

The championship, sponsored by MILO and organized by the Ministry of Education and Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association, continues to witness outstanding performances from young swimmers.
