COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, July 2, 2025 (ePRESS) – The 10th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Golf Championship for the Rukmini Kodagoda Trophy begins tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, proudly sponsored by Perera & Sons Bakers (Pvt) Ltd, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, will run from August 5 to 8, with a practice and qualifying round on Monday, August 4.

The event, which celebrates a decade of junior golf excellence, is held in memory of the late Rukmini Kodagoda, a former national golf and tennis champion and past Ladies’ Captain at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Her passion for youth sports and inspiring legacy remain at the heart of this tournament.

This year’s championship is divided into four age groups: Gold Division (15-18 years), Silver Division (13-14 years), Bronze Division (11-12 years) and Copper Division (10 years and under).

Players will first compete in a medal round on August 5, and the top scorers will qualify for the match-play knockout rounds held from August 6 to 8.

Importantly, the Gold Division is part of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), giving local boys and girls the chance to earn world ranking points and boost their future opportunities in international golf.

Last year, India’s Manoj Sreeramappa won the Boys’ title, while Dhanushi Wanasinghe of RCGC took home the Girls’ crown. Yannik Kumara and Anumi Karunathilaka were the runners-up.

Perera & Sons, one of Sri Lanka’s most loved brands, has supported the championship for 11 years. Speaking about the event, Avishka Perera, Director of Perera & Sons, said:

“My grandaunt Ruky was a true sportswoman. This tournament keeps her spirit alive and helps young golfers grow. We’re proud to support it every year.”

Players will also aim for special prizes during the qualifying round on August 5, including: Rs. 10,000 for any Hole-in-One, Awards for Longest Drive on the 8th hole (for boys and girls in all divisions), Prizes for Closest to the Pin on the 9th hole.

All prizes are sponsored by Perera & Sons Bakers (Pvt) Ltd, as part of their ongoing mission to uplift junior golf in Sri Lanka.
