Ranasinghe’s under-par triumph rocks Bangladesh Golf Championship

Dhaka, Feb 2, 7.30PM – Sri Lanka’s golf sensation, Uchitha Ranasinghe, delivered an outstanding performance on the challenging grounds of Kurmitola Golf Club during the third round of the Orion Group 37th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship in Dhaka on Friday.

Navigating the 54-hole course with a par of 71, Ranasinghe played an exceptional round, scoring an impressive under par 70. This accomplishment solidified his position as the third player to achieve a subpar score in the championship, securing an overall third place at the conclusion of the third round.

Throughout the tournament, Ranasinghe displayed remarkable consistency and skill. With a stellar gross score of 70 in the third round, his collective performance featured a score of 77 on day one and 72 on day two, resulting in a total gross score of 219.

Ranasinghe now finds himself in a competitive position, just two strokes behind the tournament’s top player, Abu Baker Siddik of Bangladesh B team (217), and one stroke below Shahab Uddin (218) of the host country’s team.

As the championship heads into the decisive final day and fourth round, the competition among the top five golfers on the leaderboard intensifies, creating an environment where any player could emerge victorious.

Uchitha Ranasinghe, representing the Royal Colombo Golf Club, currently holds the third position with a total gross score of 219. He is closely followed by Shofiqul Islam of Bangladesh’s A team and Australia’s Arav de Shah, both securing the fourth and fifth positions with an identical total gross score of 219.

Sri Lanka’s Chalitha Pushpika, with a third round’s gross score of 76, maintains a strong presence in the competition. Having consistently performed with scores of 75 and 76 on the first two days, Pushpika currently holds the seventh position with a total gross score of 227.

The stage is set for an exciting finale, and Uchitha Ranasinghe’s exceptional performance has elevated Sri Lanka’s standing in this prestigious golf championship. Golf enthusiasts eagerly await the thrilling conclusion where any of these skilled competitors could seize the title on the final day.
