JAKARTA, Indonesia, July 17 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s top junior golfer Reshan Algama delivered a powerful message to the Asian golfing world with a brilliant top 10 finish at the prestigious MEDCO Pondok Indah International Amateur Golf Championship 2025, which concluded in Jakarta on Thursday.

At just 17 years old, Algama stood tall among over 70 of Asia’s best young amateur golfers under 30 years of age — including players from powerhouse nations such as Japan, Korea, and the USA. With a three-day total of 219 (+3), the Sri Lankan prodigy secured joint 10th place, marking one of his best performances on international soil. His strong finish also earned him vital World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, further boosting his growing international profile.

Algama’s final round score of one-over-par 73 was built on patience, discipline, and smart course management. Throughout the tournament, he showed maturity beyond his years, consistently staying within the top group despite the pressure. His calm temperament and steady swing made him one of the most admired players on the course over the three days.

While the tournament ended with celebrations for the home crowd — as Indonesia’s Randy Bintang edged out fellow countryman William Wijaya in a nail-biting playoff to win the title — it was Algama who captured the attention of Sri Lankan fans and golf observers across the region.

Another bright moment for Sri Lanka came from Haroon Aslam, who produced one of the best final-day performances from the mid-table group. Aslam also carded a one-over-par 73 on the final day, pushing his total to 227 and finishing in 21st place. His sharp iron play and confident putting signaled a player gaining rhythm at the right time.

Jacob Norton, however, had a difficult closing round. His 11-over-par effort pushed him down to 51st place with a total of 240.

As Sri Lanka Golf (SLG) continues to invest in its youth pipeline, performances like Algama’s are strong signs of progress. With international opportunities ahead, this result in Jakarta could be the beginning of something special for a teenager who dreams of competing with the best in the world.
