DIGANA, Kandy, Feb 10 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s top-ranked junior golfer Reshan Algama moved into the lead after Day One of the Sri Lanka Golf February Ranking Tournament, which teed off at the Victoria Golf Resort in Digana, Kandy.
On a par-73 course, Reshan returned a solid opening-round score of 75, finishing two over par to take early control of the leaderboard. Showing discipline and patience throughout his round, he managed the demanding layout well and avoided costly mistakes to set the pace on the opening day.
Close behind the leader, Dhanushan Kumar and Jeewantha Wijenayake shared second place after both carded 76, one stroke further back, while Uchitha Ranasinghe followed in fourth position with a round of 77.
Further down the leaderboard, Jacob Norton and Chanaka Perera were tied for fifth place on 81, as the field remained tightly packed after the first round, with many players still within striking distance.
In the Ladies’ category, Supun Sadamali Sumanarathne led after the opening round with a score of 95, closely followed by Sanjeewani Wijegunarathna on 96. Liyana Wasanthi sat third after returning 106.
With two more rounds remaining, strong competition is expected in the coming days as golfers aim to improve their positions and secure valuable national ranking points.
The ranking tournament is organised by Sri Lanka Golf and has drawn a strong field from across the island, including players from leading clubs, regional centres, and the armed services.
