Colombo, Feb 27, 8.30PM – After five years, Richmond College Galle emerged victorious in the championship, and Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya Kiribathgoda made history by securing the top spot after a decade at the 16th Annual All Island Age Group Novices Swimming Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association. The event took place at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.
Richmond College showcased outstanding performance, outplaying runners-up Royal International School Kurunegala and Royal College Colombo, reclaiming the title after a five-year hiatus. The Richmondites accumulated a total of 60 points, bringing a stunning glory to the school from down south.
In the nine-school competition held across the country, Royal International School Kurunegala secured the runners-up position with 50 points, and Royal College Colombo secured the third place with 40 points.
The final standings for the other schools were as follows: Sri Sumangala College Panadura (39), Zahira College (36), President’s College Kotte (34), Kingswood College (34), St Aloysius College (32), Maliyadeva College (29), and Seevali Central College Hidella (28).
On the girls’ side, Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya collected 50 points, surpassing runners-up Bishop’s College (43) and third-place Taxila Central College Horana (42). The remaining positions were secured by Royal Institute (41), Dharmasoka College (37), Mahamaya College Kandy (35), Gothami Balika Vidyalaya (32), Pinnawala Central College (30), Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya (26), and Yasodhara Balika Vidyalaya (25).
The tournament featured four age groups: Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and Under-20. In the Under-20 age group, St Aloysius College’s DI Akarshana became the champion with 28 points, while CH Bandara of Pinnawala Central College earned 30 points to become the Under-20 Girls Champion.
In the Under-18 category, Yuindi de Zoysa of Dharmasoka College became the Girls Champion, and Kemsara Liyanage of President’s College Kotte claimed the Boys Championship. Themika de Silva of Richmond College won the Under-16 Boys Championship, and Pehansa Jithuli of Gothami Balika Vidyalaya claimed the Girls Under-16 title.
In the Under-14 category, Rion de Silva of Royal International School Kurunegala secured the Boys Championship, while Nathasha de Alwis of the same school claimed the Girls Under-14 Championship title.
