Sibling power: Marambe duo captains Sri Lanka’s Youth Diving Squad

Colombo, Feb 3, 9AM – Sri Lanka’s young diving stars, Matheesha Marambe from Royal College and Kithmi Marambe from Bishop’s College, are leading the boys and girls Youth Diving Teams heading to India on Monday. They’re off to participate in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Youth Aquatic Sports Meet in New Delhi from February 7 to 13.

Matheesha Marambe, from Royal College, is the captain of the five-member Sri Lanka Boys Youth Diving Team, which includes Mikhail Jayaweera, Yusuf Shihar, Ruel Wickramarathne, and Venuka Kankanamge, all from Royal College.

Kithmi Marambe, representing Bishop’s College, leads the four-member Sri Lanka Girls Youth Diving Team, which consists of Vinudi Kankanamge from Visakha Vidyalaya, Shania Silva from Bishop’s College, and Kisara Ranawaka from St. Bridget’s Convent.

Sri Lanka’s diving legend, Janaka Biyanwila, is joining the squad as the Technical Official, with Chanaka Wickramasinghe serving as the Coach.

Thanks to the collaboration of Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry, Indian Foreign Ministry, and Sri Lanka Sports Ministry, all facilities for the tournament are provided free of charge. The seven BIMSTEC countries participating in the event are host India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

This tournament marks an important experience for the Sri Lanka Youth teams, as they will also compete in the 11th Asian Age Group Diving Championship from February 26 to March 9 in New Clark City, Capas Tarlac, Philippines.
