COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, March 27, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka will face a challenging road in their bid to qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 after being drawn into Group F alongside Laos, Nepal, and Uzbekistan, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Thursday.
The qualifiers, scheduled to take place from June 23 to July 5 in Myanmar, will see 34 teams competing across eight groups. Only the top team from each group will advance to the next stage, making Sri Lanka’s path to qualification highly competitive.
The AFC divided the teams into five pots based on rankings, with Sri Lanka placed in Pot 4 alongside Singapore, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, Maldives, and Saudi Arabia. Group F opponents Nepal (Pot 2), Laos (Pot 3), and Uzbekistan (Pot 1) will provide stiff competition for the island nation.
The host nations for the qualifiers include Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Tajikistan. Meanwhile, China, South Korea, and Japan have already secured automatic qualification for the final tournament, scheduled from March 1 to 21, 2026.
