COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, October 22 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Nuren Wevita and Navya Banagala produced strong victories as the ATF Under-14 C2 Colombo Week 1 Tennis Tournament continued at the SLTA hard courts in Colombo, organized by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA).
Wevita, displaying solid baseline control and confidence, swept past Finland’s Tiltus Murto 4-2, 4-0 in a commanding boys’ second-round match. Banagala also showed composure in the girls’ draw, defeating fellow Sri Lankan Manuli Seneviratne 4-0, 4-1 to move into the next round.
In other boys’ encounters, India’s Nihal S. Reddy survived a thrilling three-set battle to edge Sri Lanka’s Rahail Fernandusz 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, while Hong Kong’s James Won and Shun Wing Leung both secured straight-set wins against Kashya Seneviratne and Muhammed Thariq respectively.
Among the girls, India’s Haritshwari Chinnakavanam came through an intense tie-breaker to overcome Eranya Rahulan 4-5, 5-4, 11/9, while her compatriot Wazooha Khan beat Chanuli Pinnalwatte 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in another exciting contest. Sri Lanka’s Setuli Mutugama also advanced comfortably, defeating Thishya Banagala 4-0, 4-1.
The tournament, featuring top young players from Sri Lanka, India, Hong Kong and Finland, will run until October 26 at the SLTA courts.
