COLOMBO, Sept 11, 2025 (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka will take out a yuan-denominated loan equal to $500 million to restart a stalled highway project, a top economic adviser to the president said Tuesday.
The funding will allow construction on the Central Expressway to resume later this month, according to Duminda Hulangamuwa, the president’s senior economic adviser.
“The project still needs more than $500 million to complete, and the government will raise the balance separately,” Hulangamuwa told Bloomberg by phone.
The Central Expressway is one of Sri Lanka’s biggest infrastructure ventures but has faced long delays due to financing problems. (Bloomberg)
